How to keep your Colorado Springs home comfortable this winter11/24/2015The dipping temperatures in Colorado Springs aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s not hard to dream about the warmer temperatures, it’s important to remember that you can continue to be just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a big role in this, which is why it’s so important to keep up with annual furnace service. We do have to bring up the fact that there are only a couple things that will contribute as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service should be scheduled annually. After all, who wants to spend a long winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the entire season? Already check off your annual furnace service? Here are a couple other jobs you can do to help keep your home comfortable: Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will offer an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need fixed. You might be surprised what areas are letting hot or cold air to sneak out. Weatherstripping — regardless of the door, doors permit the opportunity for a lot of cold air to come in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way inside. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in-tact or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be allowing cold air inside. If you uncover any concerns, weatherstripping is basic to switch out and may take care of the problem. Recessed lighting — one of the most common culprits for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on the light’s age, they could be letting all the hot air in your home sneak out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape. These three tips are just the beginning, but do recognize that there are other easy fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy projects to complete on the weekend.
