Vacuuming carpet to improve air quality

How Can I Improve My Indoor Air Quality?

The EPA has noted that indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than the air in bigger cities. Indoor air is also more stale. While we’d all like to be able to open the windows and breathe some fresh air, that’s not always realistic, especially this winter. There are a couple simple things you can do to improve your indoor air quality and live in a healthier home environment.

Keep Your Home Clean

A vacuum with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter, strong suction and rotating brushes is a great investment in the air quality of your home. Vacuuming once a week with a HEPA-certified vacuum will lessen the dust and allergens accumulating in your carpets and upholstered furniture.

There are some particles that escape your vacuum no matter how clean you keep your home. If you or someone in your home has allergies, a PureAir™ Air Purification System could be just what you need. This system is a whole-home solution that filters out particles and odors, and neutralizes chemical vapors – all things that may severely affect respiratory issues.

Air Purifying Plants

Plants are a natural way to freshen your air and all plants absorb carbon dioxide and discharge oxygen. In addition, there are some plants that have been found to also neutralize harmful toxins such as: benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.

If If you want an air purifying plant for your home, you can find a list of those plants by looking at the NASA Clean Air Study. If you have pets, you’ll want to check and make sure any plants you’re bringing in to your home are not harmful to them if they end up giving them a taste test.

Keep Your Home Ventilated

Modern homes are designed to keep outdoor air out of your home in order to keep its energy efficiency. This reduced ventilation causes a build up of air pollutants indoors. While it’s easy to simply crack a window, that may not fix it, which is why we have a few different ventilation options to help boost your indoor air quality and keep your home’s air clean and fresh.
