Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 because of its destructive impact to the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Colorado Springs because it’ll help make your system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was made prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely unavailable. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Triton HVAC & Refrigeration work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. Be sure to avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
