Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We emphasize preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t simply mean annual tune-ups – it also means checking your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it all yourself! Now is the ideal time to inspect your filter, as the cold season comes to an end and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are a lot of benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A guaranteed way to cause a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that is built up on your filter can force your whole system to work harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it enters your residence. The older a filter gets, the less capable it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your home, particularly if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you don’t want them moving in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help your household breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Check your system or current air filter provider for suggestions on how often you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Triton HVAC & Refrigeration, we advise an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to exchange your air filter?
